I have collected a selection of poems and readings you may like to use during a ceremony, I hope you will find something suitable. I intend to add more regularly.

Remember me:

To the living, I am gone.

To the sorrowful, I will never return.

To the angry, I was cheated,

But to the happy, I am at peace,

And to the faithful, I have never left.

I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.

So as you stand upon a shore, gazing at a beautiful sea – remember me.

As you look in awe at a mighty forest and its grand majesty – remember me.

As you look upon a flower and admire its simplicity – remember me.

Remember me in your heart, your thoughts, your memories of the times we loved, the times we cried, the times we fought, the times we laughed.

For if you always think of me, I will have never gone.

This heritage

They are not dead,

Who leave us this great heritage

Of remembering joy.

They still live in our hearts,

In the happiness we knew,

In the dreams we shared.

They still breathe,

In the lingering fragrance, windblown,

From their favourite flowers.

They still smile in the moonlight’s silver,

And laugh in the sunlight’s sparking gold.

They still speak in the echoes of the words

We’ve heard them say again and again.

They still move,

In the rhythm of waving grasses,

In the dance of the tossing branches.

They are not dead;

Their memory is warm in our hearts,

Comfort in our sorrow.

They are not apart from us,

But a part of us,

For love is eternal,

And those we love shall be with us

Throughout all eternity.

The fallen limb

A limb has fallen

from the family tree.

I keep hearing a voice that says,

“Grieve not for me.

Remember the best times,

The laughter, the song.

The good life I lived

While I was strong.

Continue my heritage,

I’m counting on you.

Keep smiling and surely

The sun will shine through.

My mind is at ease,

My soul is at rest.

Remembering all,

How I truly was blessed.

Continue traditions,

No matter how small.

Go on with your life,

Don’t worry about falls

I miss you all dearly,

So keep up your chin.

Until the day comes

We’re together again.’

Still there

A whisper in the wind,

A shadow on the wall,

The feeling that someone is there

But no answer to your call.

A kind of warmth when days are cold,

A hand held out to guide,

A glow that lights the darkest night,

A presence by your side.

If these things happen, curb your fears

Just smile a knowing smile

It’s me, you see, watching over you

Across the coming years.

Love lives on

Those we love

are never really lost to us –

we feel them

in so many special ways –

through friends

they always cared about

and dreams they left behind,

in beauty that they added to our days…

in words of wisdom we still carry with us

and memories that never will be gone…

Those we love are never really lost to us –

For everywhere their special love lives on.
